Types Of Computer Viruses And Worms You Probably DON’T Know!

Computer viruses are created for infecting the information and the rest of the computer. It is actually a computer program that is intended to create such uncertainties. The first theories on computer virus were done by John von Neumann in the year 1949. Since then the computer viruses have been a menace to the computer users. Some of the impacts that the computer has on the computers are impairment of certain computer programs and applications after which you may not be able to employ the software. There are also some viruses that are meant to corrupt a few files that may be important for your business, etc. There is also a possibility for the system to crash as well. Here are a few popular types of computer virus.
Resident Viruses

This is a type of virus that stays permanently in the RAM memory. It is from this memory that the interruptions of the rest of the computer programs are affected. It can be compared to the direct payload virus as it does not insert itself into the system’s memory but takes action only when an infected file is executed.

File infector virus

This virus, as the name suggests is the type of virus that is meant for the infection of the file. This infector takes refuge in the host and then works out when the file is executed. The file may either be overwritten or a few parts being replaced.

Boot virus

The hard disk or the boot drive of the computer is affected due to this virus which forms the important part of the computer where the whole of the information is stored. One of the best tips on how to prevent computer virus of this type is to make sure that you use write proof floppy disks and remember not to start your computer with an unknown floppy disk in the drive.

Macro Viruses

These types of viruses are generally scripted into common application programs like Excel and Word to infect the other documents. The program is not written in the language of the operating system but that of the application. The macro virus spreads to the other parts when the application is running. There are numerous macro viruses present and each of them is a great threat.

Worms

This is also a program that makes and distributes the copies of itself from one disk drive to another or using emails to copy themselves and transport the mechanism. These can cause serious threats to the computer security.

An Overview of LG’s First 3D Smartphone – the LG Optimus 3D

So the big question in mobiles at the moment is: 3D or not 3D? Well LG, who are always eager to latch onto new technology, have released their LG Optimus 3D. So are the Korean wonder kids onto something, or is 3D a fad just as the cynics suggest?

On first appearances the new Optimus is like any other phone, if maybe a tad thicker than some. The phone has a generous 4.3in screen and comes in the usual smart phone black we’re all accustomed to. The phone is large and maybe a bit heavier than most smart phones we’re used to. Coming to life, the screen is a bright, crisp affair, as we’ve come to expect from LG.

The Optimus 3D has a dual core 1GHz processor so you can be pretty much assured it doesn’t lag, it will also run the latest version of Android 2.3 after it gets an upgrade on release.

So how does the 3D look? Well, in short, very good. Initially the fact you’re looking at the screen in 3D without glasses will awe you. The LG’s 3D is showcased in its 3D hub where you can access its 3D games and video. The games look impressive, the characters and indicators rise from the screen when you’re directly in front and the screen offers colour depth and clarity. If your eyes are aside from the display though, it does not work- users of the Nintendo 3DS will be familiar with this.

Possibly the LG’s cleverest trick is its dual recording 3D camera, allowing you to live every bit of your life in 3 dimensions, record it and show it to whoever you wish in 720p quality. The camera also allows users to record 1080p in normal 2D mode. You can upload footage directly to YouTube in all three dimensions if you want your antics to be seen further afield.

You can also turn off the 3D or even lower its strength according to your needs, some people hate the feeling of 3D and for others it causes headaches, so this is welcome and wise attachment.

The phone itself is a very nice little device even aside from the 3D and offers all the accessories and pleasure of using a normal LG smart phone, albeit a little heavier. The phone’s interface is nice and Android and apps run very smoothly with the powerful dual core.

Overall, the LG Optimus 3D is a great device and the 3D a great extra. We think this is important, because whether or not you see the 3D screen as a gimmick, the Optimus 3D has plenty to offer. We can certainly see ourselves buying the LG for its overall abilities not just the 3D ones.

Chromebook: Understanding its benefits and limitations

Google has recently made their official release to the public on the Google Chromebook and Chrome OS operating system. With this release, there are many questions as to what exactly this laptop does.. And more importantly what it cannot do

To quickly summarize the Chromebook — it is very inexpensive alternative to typical desktop and laptop computers. Its main function is to access the web and it stays true to this. Everything you do on the Chromebook is web-based, or rather “browser-based”. Therefore everything is done in the “cloud”. The OS does not run like your typical home computer and nothing can be saved or accessed through the desktop. It’s like opening up your Chrome browser from your Macbook and never leaving it..
If this seems limiting to you, maybe that’s because it is. All of your downloaded applications like Photoshop and excel are not accessible from your Chromebook. The flip side is that Google’s vision for web based programs and cloud computing is taking stride and there are a myriad of wonderful web-based apps for you to work with. Cloud based computing is nothing new and most of us deal with it in some way or another everyday (think gmail, docs, facebook, flickr, etc…).

Let’s take a look at some of the main benefits to Chromebook:
Instantly Connected: Turn on your Chromebook and access the Internet within 8 seconds! This incredibly fast load time is a result of the simplistic approach from Google. Additionally, as the book automatically updates itself it should theoretically only become faster as time goes on.
Always Connected: With build in Wi-Fi and Verizon 3G mobile broadband, this thing is always ready to browse. This is no surprise as the laptop’s functionality is severely restricted without the Internet.
Always the same experience: Being that everything is cloud based, you can simply sign into another Chromebook to retrieve any and every bit of information you have stored. Rather nifty if you happen to misplace or forget your laptop!
Decent Web-Apps: This arena is sure to grow exponentially and for now there are a number of quality web-based apps to facilitate most computing needs.
Security: Boasting the first computer operating system to be built from the ground up to defend against malware and viruses, Google’s notebook may prove to be more secure than even Macs.

The benefits are rather straightforward and easy to understand. If you want a fast, web-based operating system that is always connected, Chromebook has you covered. Now let’s take a look at some of the negatives as discussed by the industries early adopters:

The most obvious is that of cloud storage. Many people are still quite uncomfortable hosting all of their information elsewhere. While the industry has yet to showcase its full capacity to prevent security breaches, cloud based applications are used by some of the world’s largest companies. Web-based maintenance management software is also used to handle delicate customer data all over the world.

Compatibility with your other applications seems to prove quite difficult on the Chromebook. While Google maintains that virtualization is the solution, it is not clear how it will be handled at this point.

Fast Internet connection is a must when operating your Chromebook. Without it, processor speed and memory won’t get you anywhere in the cloud based world.

File compatibility is also a bit of a drag given that the operating system does not recognize all of the file extensions that a normal computer would. Ex: m4v, mov, wmv, etc.

To sum it all up — Chromebook is a valid alternative and great change of pace if you work mostly through the web. On the other hand, this laptop is likely never to replace your standard machine if you consider yourself a computer power-user. As with all innovative products in the tech field, it is up to the consumer to chose if the product provides sufficient functionality and value.

Apple iPhone 5 vs Google Nexus Prime

wo of the more anticipated smartphone devices to be released in the near future are the Apple iPhone 5 and the Google Nexus Prime. We take a speculative look to determine which device has more potential.

Dimensions and Form
There is currently no officially released information regarding the dimensions for either the iPhone 5 or the Nexus Prime. It’s likely, however, that both devices will not deviate from their predecessors in terms of style, with the only alterations coming in the form of thickness and weight. Although typically newer generation phones tend to be lighter, it’s realistic that given the push toward dual core architecture and larger screens, both devices will be larger than earlier models.

Some rumors predict the iPhone 5 will return to its roots with an aluminum back panel, while keeping the physical home button in lieu of gesture controlled navigation. The Nexus Prime, on the other hand, is opting for no buttons to give more space to the Samsung developed Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen.

Winner: Draw

Display Screen
• Apple iPhone 5 – 4 inch, 960 x 540 Retina Display
• Google Nexus Prime – 4.7 inch, 1280 x 720 pixel resolution with Samsung PenTile Matrix Technology

It’s highly unlikely that the iPhone 5 will need to do much as far as improving the quality of their retina display, as the iPhone 4 currently boasts the best display of all portable devices. The Google Nexus Prime is attempting to up the ante, however, with a 720p resolution normally reserved for high definition TVs. Despite the lower resolution, the pixel density remains relatively equal and the Retina Display probably helps maintain Apple’s dominance in screen technology.

Winner: Apple iPhone 5

Processing Power and Memory
• Apple iPhone 5 – 1GHz dual core ARM processor, 512MB RAM
• Google Nexus Prime – 1.5GHz dual core TI OMAP4460 CPU and a PowerVR SGX540 GPU, 1GB RAM

The iPhone 5 figures to be Apple’s first dual core smartphone, part of a new trend as manufacturers find ways to fit the powerful architecture into smaller and smaller device. The Google Nexus Plus is no exception, featuring its own dual core TI OMAP4460 CPU. In fact, if the rumors surrounding the iPhone 5 are true, the Nexus Prime has it beat in both processing power and RAM, with 1.5GHz and 1GB respectively.

Winner: Google Nexus Prime

Storage Capacity
• Apple iPhone 5 – 16GB, 32GB, or 64GB options
• Google Nexus Prime – 32GB plus Micro SD support

As with earlier devices, it’s likely the Apple iPhone 5 will be offered with at least 16GB or 32GB. As a newer model, it’s probable that Apple will also sell a 64GB product as well. The Google Nexus Prime will likely have a 32GB option standard, with Micro SD support for those who wish to store more data.

Winner: Draw

Operating System
• iPhone 5 – iOS 5
• Google Nexus Prime – Android Ice Cream Sandwich

The iPhone 5 will be delivered with iOS 5, the latest version of Apple’s mobile device platform. The update will come with over two hundred new features including a Notifications Center to remove annoying pop-ups, the iMessage service similar to the BlackBerry Messenger, and a revamped mail app. The iOS 5 Safari browser has been further tweaked to add better performance to its Nitro Javascript engine, and as part of their ‘PC Free’ campaign, iTunes no longer has to be tethered to a computer to update.

Nexus Prime comes with its own updated software as Google releases Android Ice Cream, a software intended to unify all previous builds into one master operating system for all tablets and smartphones. THe update will come with a new app launcher, better tab browsing, a redesigned interface, and enlargeable widgets.

Winner: Draw

Camera
• Apple iPhone 5 – 8 megapixel camera
• Google Nexus Prime – 5 MP primary camera with 2560 x 1920 pixel resolution, 2 MP secondary camera

Details regarding the Nexus Prime have emerged, including the ability to capture video at a stunning 1080p. The 5 megapixel camera will be loaded with auto-focus and a digital zoom, supplemented by a 2 megapixel camera for video calling. Speculation for the iPhone has it delivering an 8 megapixel primary or a 5 megapixel camera with improved sensors.

Winner: Google Nexus Prime

Conclusion
As much of the information is still speculation, the advantage Google Nexus Prime has may simply be a matter of ignorance regarding the iPhone 5. Given Apple’s history, it would not be surprising if the iPhone 5 ultimately blew away the competition, but as of now the race looks to close to call.

How to Take Better Pictures with Your Smartphone’s Camera

Smartphone users know that one of the greatest features of this device is its built-in camera. Having a device with a built-in camera actually allows you to benefit from its functions whenever necessary. And although these cameras cannot be compared to the individual digital devices, they are definitely better than not having any camera at all. And this is because these cameras allow users to take different pictures whenever they want.

Taking Better Pictures with a Smartphone’s Camera: A Few Tips
The easiest thing on earth is to decide that the camera of a Smartphone represents a useless addition, which cannot provide pictures of good quality. However, this thing can be easily changed with the help of a few tips.

The most important thing that you should know about a Smartphone’s camera is the fact that it can deliver some truly good pictures if you know how to handle it. Therefore, you must hold the Smartphone in a particular way and always frame the image carefully. Another essential thing that you must be aware of is the fact that most of the built-in cameras do not provide any image stabilizer. For this reason, anyone who intends to get some truly good pictures must keep the camera steady when capturing an image.

The users must also know that most Smartphones use some low shutter speeds indoors. This thing actually means that if the users are not careful, the only thing that they will get is a blurry photo. In order to avoid this thing, the users should take about 2 or 3 photos from which they can choose the best one. Another great idea, which can help you to take some great pictures with your Smartphone, is to make sure that the environment provides enough light. It is essential to know that most Smartphones are not that great for taking low light photos. For this reason, if you are able to place the object into more light, the photo will be dramatically improved.

The Smartphone Developers and Their Opinions
Although most manufacturers admit the fact that the cameras, which come along with the Smartphones, were firstly developed only to attract the consumers, they know that the optimization of the cameras’ abilities represents a very important thing these days. Therefore, all of them are trying to produce some truly advanced camera models, which ensure high resolutions and strong lens systems. Many Smartphone developers are agreeing to combine their technologies with those of the digital cameras’ manufacturers, as only this way they can deliver some truly great camera models that will accompany the future Smartphones.

Obviously, the upgrades that the manufacturers prepare for the Smartphones’ cameras are meant to increase the popularity of these devices even more. Moreover, the top Smartphone developers already provide different accessories which are able to upgrade the existing Smartphone’s built-in cameras. Thus, anyone can already enjoy some high quality devices, which provide both, a reliable cell phone and a truly good digital camera.

However, anyone should know that the exiting Smartphones’ cameras are just the beginning of a long process. And this is because the Smartphone developers are already planning sharper resolutions and greater storage space capacities. Moreover, they promise to develop some truly incredible devices, which are small, light and obviously, very smart.

Using a Digital Picture Frame for Photo Storage

Many people have seen digital picture frames before whether it was in someone’s house or business. They have personal uses and practical uses because people can display their photos and business owners can display their ads and their merchandise. People can also use digital picture frames as a way to store and to display all of their digital photos. This can be a great in times of emergency. For example, if you have to evacuate your home for any reason, such as a hurricane, a flood, or a forest fire, you can grab your digital picture frame and have all of your photos in one place.
n order to use a frame to store all of your photos, you will need to find a frame with a large internal memory. Some frames come with either one or two GB of internal memory. With two GB of storage, you can store around 16000 photos. However, you will need to go through your photos and make some adjustments so that you can put as many photos onto your frame as possible.

Preparing Your Photos for Your Frame
To prepare your photos for your digital picture frame, you will need to open the folder on your computer that contains all of your photos. First, you should delete any duplicate photos. Second, you should delete photos that are overexposed, underexposed, or blurry. If you do this for all of your photos, you will be able to clear up some space on your computer. After you have cleaned up your photos, you will need to resize them. Many cameras take photos that are huge, and you can reduce the size of the photo without losing much picture quality. If you slightly reduce the size of all of your photos, you will free up a lot of space on your computer.

After you have gone through your photos, you can start loading them onto your frame. Make sure that all of your photos are grouped by theme or occasion because this will make the frame more organized. Generally, you can use a USB flash drive to move photos from a laptop to your frame. If you want to use the frame to store photos, you should load as many photos onto your frame as possible.

Once you have loaded the photos onto your frame, and you are sure that the photos have transferred and are displaying properly, you can remove the photos from your computer. This can help free up some space on your computer. By using a digital picture frame, you will be able to store your photos in one place, and you will be able to save thousands of your photos if you need to leave your home suddenly. A digital picture frame will also display the photos that people rarely see because they are away hidden on your computer. The best thing about these frames is that you can find ten inch frames with 2 GB of storage, for around $130.
This article is all about “Using a Digital Picture Frame for Photo Storage” and was supplied by Nix Digital Picture Frames.

Microsoft BUILD: Windows 8, A Pre-Beta Preview

Here in Anaheim, California at Microsoft’s BUILD conference. As has become tradition (or at least as much as possible), Microsoft has been holding major developer conferences for their new OSes roughly a year ahead of launch. In 2008 developers and the press got their first in-depth look at Windows 7 at Microsoft’s Professional Developers Conference (PDC), and here in 2011 BUILD is doing much the same for Windows 8.
As it stands Windows 8 is still in its infancy. The build in Microsoft’s demos is 1802, a pre-beta and not feature complete version of the OS. Microsoft needs to balance the need to show off Windows 8 to developers with a need to keep it under wraps until it’s done as to not spook end-users. The result of that is the situation at BUILD, where Microsoft is focusing on finished features while unfinished features are either not in the OS or are going unmentioned. For comparison, at PDC 2008 the Windows 7 interface was not done yet, and Microsoft was using the Windows Vista interface in its place.

Today the show kicks off in earnest with a keynote that begins at the same time as this article went live, followed by some mega-sessions for developers covering the biggest aspects of Windows 8. Yesterday was a pre-show day for press, with Microsoft spending most of the day running the press through a similar series of presentations, focused more on the end-user than developers.

At the conclusion of the press sessions we managed to get some hands on time with a tablet PC development platform running the same build of Windows 8. We haven’t had the chance to give the platform a full working over – not that it would be prudent in its pre-beta state – but we did want to give you a rundown of what Microsoft had to share with us and what we’ve seen so far. Microsoft’s tagline for BUILD is that “Windows 8 changes everything” and while Win8 is not a massive reworking of the Windows kernel, it is a major overhaul of nearly everything else. Certainly based on the pre-beta build on display, you will be using Windows 8 significantly differently from Windows 7.

The big thing with Windows 8 is Metro, which we’ll go more in-depth with in a bit. Microsoft classifies Metro as a style, but in reality Metro is a new version of Windows from the API on up. Metro is the Windows Shell, Metro is an application design paradigm, Metro is a user paradigm, and Metro is the future of Windows application programming. Metro is everywhere – and for ARM it is everything - and it will make (or break) Windows 8.
